Cant type to enter Half Life:Counter Strike CD-KEY with Wine
 

Hello everyone, I was testing out Wine, to see how these programs work, befor I buy WineX, a I installed it no problem and all that, I installed Counter Strike with Wine no prob, no errors, but.. When I go to
/home/kyle/.wine/fake_windows/sierra/Counter-Strike/
and then execute cstrike.exe, Wine opens up and runs counter strike for me, but I have to put in the Counter Strike cd-key (Which I have).. but it wont let me type, I cant type anything in the box to put in my key. Anyone know how I can get Wine to let me type it in:Pengy:

Had this same problem with starcraft and i wish i could tell you the solution but for us we were just bouncing around to a number of different windows and when we came back to it we could type. Don't know - wish i could be of more help but that is what happened to us. However - whe n it was running you would go off the game screen if you scrolled to far. It was really weird but if we scrolled the wrong direction it would scroll right over to the desktop. Freaky stuff

maybe try editing the .reg file??? I'm not for sure where it would be at.. but to install SimCity 4 (with winex), you have to add the cdkey to the .reg file.

I had the same problem with halflife found out it couldnt read the sound devices and for some reason wouldnt let me type. chmod 666 /dev/snd/* fixed it

Run wine in desktop mode (see config file) to solve this problem

i simply pasted the cd-key to the field :)

guys the solution is easier than what u thin..just type the cd key somewhere else(eg a notepad) and then copy paste it to the section where it asks u for the cd key

You need a CD key for counter strike? I thought it was a free mod you got off the net....

You dont need a cd-key for counterstrike but you do need one for halflife

or if you bought counter strike retail (in which case u don't need half life)

WineX has better suport. Runs Steam and CS perfectly.

Well, the thing with the key (copy paste from a text file) worked fine for me....the problem is that I cannot see any buttons or links in counter-strike, and even if I manage to connect to a server(using the console), I move in pictures, I do not have a contiguos image on the screen. It moves just like in the situation where my latency is too big...I dunno why...Please reply :)
