Question can't unmount /mnt/cdrom while running Cedega.

Hello all

I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable linux user, and have been using this wonderful
operating system for a few years now.

anyways, my real problem is installing games that include several other discs
to complete their installations (ie: HL2).

I've read all the "can't eject cdrom while using wine!"
and "unmounting fails for /mnt/cdrom"

and have tried the various solutions:

Code:
cedega --mount-cdrom-eject /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe
killall -USR2 wineserver
and none are working!

I'm going to keep probing the net for more information
but if any of you understand my problem and or know of any other solution to resolve this
please reply back.

Thanking you in advance

i had this problem while installing BF1942 and this solution worked for a few other users who ive helped:

i noticed that if i pressed the eject button on the cd-rom then tried to unmount i always got cd-rom busy. (even when using the -monitor-cdrom option or something like that)

so i restarted the installation, but this time when it asks for the second disk DONT press the eject button. Just unmount the cd-rom from a terminal, and type eject and hopefully it should work.

as i say, this is what worked for a few people i know. hope it helps

Kane

let us know if this works, thanks

Are you at the same directory as the cdrom mount point? What I mean is, if you are located at /mnt/cdrom and try to eject, it won't work. Mount and umount the cdrom from your home and run wine/cedega also from your home, specifying the hole path to the executable. E.g:

cd
mount /mnt/cdrom
cedega /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe
umount /mnt/cdrom
mount /mnt/cdrom

Sometimes it also helps opening a new terminal just to umount the device. I hope the above does not sound so confusing. It's simple, really. I'm the one bad explaining things

Good luck!

yay!

thanks megaman for you reply.

No, I wasn't cd'd into /mnt/cdrom, but I found the solution to my problem all
and I'd like to post it here for the rest of you that may be having this problem:

When the install asks for the next disc do the following in a terminal.

Code:
umount -l /mnt/cdrom
su -c 'eject'
then, put in the next disc
then mount:
Code:
mount /mnt/cdrom
then click ok on the installer.

This worked for me, I can't guarantee it will work for the rest of you.

thanks for all your help anyways .

happy gaming (couldn't think of anything else cheesier :P)

Cool, I'm glad you've found a solution. And thanks for your feedback/sharing too. Replying to your own post will surely help somebody having the same problem... very few do that nowadays
