I am using the newest version of Cedega under Fedora Core 3 and everything is working perfectly now with PB enabled.
The only problem I have with Cedega now is the alt key freezing my game until I press it again.
It activates the top left menu of Cedega when I press alt, that's why it freezes the game. Very frusterating.

I think you should remap the ALT key. There's something about it in the Transgaming forum(the ALT key in Wine is like the windows System key or something like that..).

Fix

I have had the same problem with my latest install on CoD | UO.
the O/S error has been kicking me too. I tried updating punkbuster with pbweb.x86 and pbweb.exe.
I finally did this.
I put pbweb.exe in the pb directory. (/usr/local/games/cod/pb)
then run this command.

#wine pbweb.exe ( may need #wine /usr/local/games/cod/pb/pbweb.exe)
this will install the dll's which I'm guessing you need because you emulating under wine.
Next you change you wine config (should be .wine in your home directory.)

change the [version] section so you run as win98
"Windows" = "win98"

I discovered this from reading the PB site where I found this news post,

Quote:

Version 1.085 of the PB Client for CoD has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page.

Release Notes for PB Client v1.085:

* starting with this version 1.085, the PB Client now requires the game to be run as the administrator user or equivalent under Windows XP/2K (see our FAQ for more info).
hope this helps!!

Ive installed COD and updated it using p2p under admin privelidges.
ran the pbweb.x86 from the cod/pb dir
Tried running it under win98 mode and always run p2p w/ sudo but I keep getting kicked for the lack of privs....
running pbweb.exe w/ wine makes no difference - even in win98 mode [naturally running p2p as admin]
PB did update successfully

pb = crapware

My subscription to transgaming expired and i was fed up with them anyway so i ripped all there crap off. Re-installed pure wine with wt2 toolset and guess what? CoDUo works with no problems at all including PB for mp games.

go figure.

Erm, i won't delve into the difference for my sanity's sake.
Perhaps you should try going to the punkbuster or cod website and posting a thread in their forum about your problem to see if they can fix it.
Here probably isn't the best place to ask, and people here are almost certainly experiencing problems that may sound similar, but are caused by different things.

Might be a selinux problem if its enabled. The latest targeted policy interferes with pb for some reason.

I've heard this PB problem before and it happens in Linux and windows as well!

It seems that PB needs you to be logged in as an administrator did you tried that?

e.x. I know a problem with DeepFreeze when its enabled on your system even if you are logged in as an admin you still get that O/S Inadequa..... cause DeepFreeze disables some admin functions!

So the only way is to try running tha game as root i suppose!!
