ati drivers working...kind of
I've got the ati drivers installed and working, but when there is something that uses 3d accel. there is checkers through it. It looks like a checker board... Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.
BTW it's Mandrake 10 CE |
I have the same problem with an amd processor and the 3.7.6 drivers... its a bug in the driver... check out ati's linux driver faq... its documented.. However your game should work perfectly in window mode.

even in windowed mode they still have the same problem... I don't understand why having an AMD CPU will affect the graphics. I thought that the newer video cards used their on board GPU? And I also thought that this issue was supposed to be fixed with 3.7.6? ATI :tisk:

the wonders of ATI & linux.. some things we may never know... I now only buy nvidia cards for linux. http://www.nvidia.com ;) EDIT: I bet this issue doesnt occur with 3.7.0... if anyone happens to have this driver hosted somewhere.. please share.. because ATI doesnt have old drivers available for linux. |
I am just about to put that card up for sale on ebay and go buy a Geforce FX 5950. Anyone want an ATI 9800 SE 128Mb? Good Price!

Before you put your card on ebay I had the same issue with my Hercules 9800 Se.
It is to do with the pipelines. If I tried to soft mod my card in windoze then it would do the checkerboard. I then installed linux and had the same issue. Look at this thread there is a way to make it work, change your device ID to that of a 9500 and all works fine. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...ghlight=9800se See if it helps you. Now if only I could get my direct rendering working with 2.6.3...... Glen |
once you have go the drivers up and running try dropping down to level 3 (init 3) you will need to be root. and type modprobe nvidia_agp once logged on as root. then logout and logback in as your normal user and type kde (if you use kde) or startx (in m10 i think thats starts winWM)
