ATI and Kernel Update

Hello friends...

I'm very BAD, because I continue to have some problems with my Ubuntu Machine and ATI Driver...

I have installed correctly the Ati driver stored in the repository.

The fglrxinfo tell me that I'm using the ATI OpenGL

So I think It's all Ok!!

But, after sometimes, I have updated my distro with new kernel and now:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)

I have this problem When I update the kernel, but I can't do nothing else...
I can only reinstall Ubuntu... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Someone can help me??

This is a quite normal phenomenon, let me explain. Part of the ATI driver is kernel module and has to be re-installed for every new kernel. This wouldn't be necessary if ATI had the sense to release the driver under GPL so it could be added to the kernel.

In essence, you don't need to reinstall Ubuntu, just the ATI driver.
