This is in the Linux - Games sub-forum. I'm not sure whether this is a mistake (could be, and this is a general newbie question) or whether this is, in some way a games question (if so, please clarify the question, because the games connection is very unclear).

Let me try some suggestions at random, assuming that some kind of test of Linux is on the cards.

First suggestion: prepare your mind: the Zen beginner's mind is often helpful.

Second suggestion: prepare a Live CD/DVD. This assumes that you want to try Linux in some way or for some purpose...and the usual mistake is to burn the CD/DVD in the wrong mode so that it is not bootable. See the documentation on your CD writing software to avoid this problem.

Third suggestion. Prepare your BIOS. Ensure that your BIOS is set to 'boot from CD' early in the boot order, if you intend to boot from the disk that you prepared in the previous step.
