Arch linux have sound but not in games :S

heyho all, I am a bit of a newbie so try to bare with me.
I run Arch Linux with nvidia GeForce FX 5200 and a Via82xx AC 97 built in 16-bit audio card. I use alsa-driver with alsa-oss emulation for all my sound needs. I can and do play such things like audio files with perfect clarity. I have no Internet connection atm so I just run blackbox and my games. Games I currently have installed are: ut2004, doom3, ut, unreal and unreal return to na pali. I get no errors relating to sound from any of these games there just is no sound. I do not know what to do, any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I think I may not have something that I need installed. My friend said I could be getting digital sound as opposed to analogue but I have no idea what he means.
Thank you very much in advance for what ever help you offer.

and second is something I just found when I piped doom3 through less:
----------- OSS Sound Initialization -----------
opened sound device '/dev/dsp'
/dev/dsp - bit rate: 16, channels: 2, frequency: 44100
WARNING: mmap 57344 bytes on device /dev/dsp failed: Input/output error

close sound device
WARNING: sound subsystem disabled

I have researched into this but think it is doom3 specific and perhaps not relevant.

LOL, ok. I feel rather silly now but it seems my problem was so simple I didnt even think of it! my setting in alsa mixer weren't saved after a reboot! It seems some stuff was turned up which alowed for audio files to play but other needed stuff for games wasnt. I am not sure if I understand it but I can tell you how I fixed it. After turning everything up in alsamixer I saved my setting with "/sbin/alsactl store" without the ""
