Americas Army 1.9 Network problem

Hi.

I got weird problem with Americas Army new version for Linux (1.9).

When I have downloaded the file from official mirrors, and run it by root with "sh myops*.bin", there is all there should be "Verifiying packet integrity" etc. So it installs ok, and I can even play the game until registering part comes up.

All is ok until that point. Now starts the really weird things happen. When I run "sh myops.bin" my network is going down at the same second

Seems that it somehow executes "zcip" and totally smashes IP of eth0. I just found it last night when I tried everything else I could think of. Finally I figured out that I need to kill dhcpdc and start it again, then everything runs smoothly again.

But, problem is still remains. I have a feeling here I'm missing something very basic thing, but I haven't found any documentation in AA homepages, Manual, FAQs nor Googling. Maybe I'm using wrong search method, but I really think I have tried everything Linux n00b like myself can think of.

I'm using Mandrake 9.1, kernel 2.4.21-0.25mdk, Network Card is 3COM 3C940 Gbit PCI Controller using Linux driver 3c2000 which was in Asus drivers installation cd.

Any help is welcomed

I don't know what is wrong, every time I start the game network goes down. When I run the installation script as user, network stays up, but when I start the game it goes down again. I have to kill dhcpcd and start it again in order to get network working again.

This is really confusing

Can you post here, and just state your problem: http://forum.americasarmy.com

Look for the Linux Support forums.

BTW: Version 2.0 for Linux is on the way, it is still being tested, and I'm not sure when icculus will release it.

I don't know why this would happen. Did you register a username on http://americasarmy.com ?

There have been some problems with the auth server since version 2.0 came out, they are working on them now. But this should have no effect on your net connection.

Yup, I registered it on url you gave. But the net connection goes down at the same time I start the program, even before I get chance to type in my login/pass.

Posted question to AA forums, hopefully someone can help me there :/

Do you have another NIC(100mb) you can try out? I just cant see the program causing that problem. Do you use zcip? or can you remove that app, and set your ip manually?

I don't have another NIC to try I removed zcip and tried the game, still crashes the network. I get it up again by running dhcpcd.

Maybe I just found cool new bug in AA

2.0 will be comming out, why don't you wait for that version. If it still happens then post a new post. and we'll see if anyone has an idea as to what is going on.

There used to be a problem with some routers (linksys) firmware, not sure if it is still happening in 2.0.

Have you tried setting your IP up as static?

Well that depends on your setup..What kind of connection do you have?

If its cable, see below.

Well I'm not familiar with Mandrake, but you might want to try this command: netconfig , (You can type net and then hit tab a couple times to see what other commands start with net.)

Setting it up from the command line:

Open a terminal/xterm, whatever you want to call it.
And type: ifconfig eth0
Look to see if it has an IP

If it doesnt:
ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (This will be the IP that you want to use)
Then:
route add xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eth0 (This will be for your netmask)

Example of route:
route add 192.168.1.0 eth0 (I use a router/switch on my home Network, All my IP's are 192.168.1.XXX, so my network will be 192.168.1.0, with a netmask of 255.255.255.0.)

Ok next:
route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (The IP of your default gateway)
Example; route add default gw 192.168.1.1

Now you can start it up:
ifconfig eth0 up

If you know your nameservers ip you can easly add it to /etc/resolv.conf
echo 'nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' >> /etc/resolv.conf (This is your nameserver IP.

If your card works on windows, boot into it and go: Start/Run cmd
Once the DOS box comes up, do: ipconfig /all
and write al the info down. and boot back into Linux to setup your card.

I have cable, when I type "ifconfig" I get the following:

[root@dsl-tregw1j07 sami]# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0C:6E:38B:3F
inet addr:80.223.217.7 Bcast:80.223.223.255 Mask:255.255.240.0

TX packets:2254810 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:2755566081 (2627.9 Mb) TX bytes:2244960494 (2140.9 Mb)
Interrupt:11

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:4008 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:4008 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:305279 (298.1 Kb) TX bytes:305279 (298.1 Kb)

[root@dsl-tregw1j07 sami]#

When I'm logged in as user (not root), I cannot change network configuration, not even run "ifconfig", still AA somehow crashes network. This is really beoynd my comprehence. Maybe its not Linux problem, maybe its AA itself.

I would wish if someone else using Mandrake 9.1 tell that if they got it working.

Thanks for your help Hanzerik
