3D Acceleration problem with a Voodoo5

Can someone explain why I keep getting a segmentation fault when I try to run racer? It looks like a cool game and was part of my SuSE 8.2. If I turn on 3D acceleration, all my other 3D games rock on, but not racer. If I turn it off, then it 'runs' (yeah, like molassas in winter!).
