where to extract?
 

i am on chapter six in the lfs book but before i get started on my permanent system i want to know where i should extract the tar.bz2 files that i will use for my permanent system.

in /LFS/sources just like you did for chapter 5

I personally completed the system extracting everything in $LFS and deleting them source and build directorys later.

It doesn't make a difference whatsoever- just make sure you clean up after yourself so that you don't have a "messy system" when you first boot up.

you seriouslly don't want to start off with stray files lying all over the place.
