Using BSD startup scripts

Just a couple of days ago, I got LFS, version SVN-20060923, to boot & start up. I have installed a couple of packages from BLFS (ms & gpm). Being a longtime Slackware user, I would prefer the BSD start up scripts. I copied the hint referenced in the book, but it wouldn't boot, probably because I didn't modify it at all & it doesn't start udev. The boot failed on not finding a hdd partition. My question is: can I just run the rc.udev script as written for the sysvinit, or is there some modification needed? I know almost nothing about sysvinit.
Regards,
Bill
