Question Urgent

I want to prepare my minimal linux system in my host machine. I was going through the LFS book description where it is suggested to download all the packages and patches in the host system. I have already installed Red hat Linux but I don,t remember whether it hava a development provision, i.e. at the time of installation whether the development option was chosen , I am not remembering. Kindly suggest and guide me how to check that the current system is providing the development feature?
1) If not installed, then whether it is mandatory to be get installed for preparing the minimal linux system.
2) Moreover, I don,t want to include network and GUI support in my minimal linux system, so what are all those packages and pacthes that can be excluded while downloding?

"Urgent" will send some people away, and others will still click out of curiosity. On average, you get better help with a good title.

The "development" feature simply means the compiler and perhaps the kernel source code. The package manager will tell you what is installed---look for gcc. Also sometimes there is something called "build-essential".

Tell us more about what you are trying to do--eg are you trying to set up a custom system using LFS?
