This sounds difficult...
Should I be an advanced Linux user before trying this out? How do you work this? Does it show you what to do and what you can put on to your Linux? Or is it all in a command line? I just need a basic synopsis on LFS. Thanks.

I'd say check out gentoo's handbook before diving into a LFS for the first time.

OR... you could just read the LFS manual online and decide for yourself!
If you're really in a rush, just read the Audience subsection under the Preface. Have fun! |
That was initial reaction when I first looked at LFS. But I plunged in anyway and am very glad I did. I learned a lot. That was with LFS 5.1 and now I am preparing to build LFS 6.x. In fact, I am quickly headed toward making LFS my primary distro. Give it a shot...

Just try it and see. You'll learn a lot in the process. No, it isn't all command line. Sure you do have to get used to command prompt when you first boot into your LFS system but then you can compile X windows and Gnome or whatever and things get more comfortable
