Well I have been using linux for about the past 6 months and have been through a bunch of different flavors and have not been happy with any of them. I have now decided to give LFS a try and see what happens with it. I only use my computer for email, UT2004 and also am getting ready to start learning C and C++. I have done chapters 1-4 without any problems at all but those are just setup so that isn't that big of a deal. I am getting ready to start chapter 5 probably on Friday or Saturday. I have 2 hdd, LFS will be going on my primary drive that is a 120GB's and my secondary drive is 80GB's and I installed MDK 10.0 CE on it and got my nvidia drivers installed so I can play UT2004 so I can take breaks from LFS. I will updating this with any problems and also my success in further chapters.
good luck on you LFS adventures, I've done 3 LFS systems..........

LOL that's almost the first sentence from the LFS book I think you'll be happy when you finished it... I've almost finished my second LFS build without major problems, it works great!
success with building && greetz,

Thanks for all the encouragement all, I am really looking forward to starting my work on chapter 5 tomorrow night. I would start tonight but I have a lan party to go to for UT2004 and I have my priorities . I will be posting updates here on how it is going and also any questions I have as I move along.
I finshed LFS last weekend, and I'm making really good progress on BLFS now... it's been a real adventure, and educational too. I think the number one thing I've learned, however, is that it's really important to read everything very carefully and doublecheck everything you type before you press "enter". Cut and paste from the book, if you can!
I have figured out you should not really turn off your computer once you have started installing this. I did that and now I have to remount everything and set everything back up environment wise. Talk about annoying.
yes, I did that too with my first LFS try... I re-entered the enviroment but got the wrong page of the book, so I re-entered the enviroment the totally wrong way, not recommended. from that moment, I wrote down the page numbers where I left and where I could find the "login" method. that really helped me through... I did my later builds without leaving the LFS enviroment tho.....
greetz,

ps: nowadays I save the commands to enter the LFS enviroment in a shell script...
I found 'screen' to be really helpful when building LFS - meant I could log out, log back in, and just resume screen to be exactly where I'd left off. Didn't even need to chroot that way
