Question Problems with patch

Hi all!

This is my first proper attempt at building an LFS system and so far, it's gone ok.

But i've hit a problem. I've got up to chapter 6.7 where you have to run the linux-libc-headers patch. I type in the command and get the reply:
Code:
bash: patch: command not found
This is in the chroot environment. I can still get the command to work under the 'lfs' user but not when root

Anyone able to give em some pointers?

Hi,

The error tells you that the patch program cannot be found.

- Did you enter the chrooted environment correctly chap 6.4 (PATH to name one),
- Did you forget to install patch or did something go wrong in chapter 5.25?

I'm sure everything is installed ok...all the patches that needed doing in chapter 5 (when running as lfs) worked fine. Just now that i'm using root it doesn't find it. It could be that i've missed something somewhere but i'm sure i've followed the commands to the letter.

EDIT

just gone along to /usr/bin and a few of the other places and patch isn't listed in either directory. So i'm guessing it is something i've missed or a typo

The patch program used in chapter 5 is a different one from the one used in chapter 6. Chapter 6 uses the one installed in chapter 5, chapter 5 uses the one that's on your host system/liveCD. After you chroot you can only use the commands installed in chapter 5, not those outside that environment.

If patch is the only program missing (probably) then re-start from there.

Cheers for the pointers, but i think i'll start from the begining again (when i have my next day off, lol). I've got this far now so it'll be that little bit easier when i do it again. Will post how it goes!
