problem running "make bootstrap" on GCC

I am running the Live CD for my host system with 20Gb free.
my problem is described in this forum post

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...lfs-cd-534548/

Unfortunatly this problem was not solved, I have not deviated from the book at all, My system partition is 10Gb.

LFS book 6.3
lfslivecd-x86-6.3-r2160.iso

I got right up the the command "make bootstrap" in section 5.4.1 Installation of GCC, Pass 1
The version of GCC is 4.1.2, but i am getting the same problem as that other guy.
I really have no clue on this one, i ran it all from /gcc-build

I just figured out my problem as I was writing this, it is building it under the mount point of /

Now the question is what should I do, run it from /mnt/lfs/gcc-build
Is that what the command mkdir -v ../gcc-build is supposed to do, cause when i do, i get a directory in /
and how much is this gonna affect the end system if i screw up the directory tree?

thanks in advance
if there is any other information i can supply i will be happy to

i think the easiest way to solve a problem is to post a question about it and solve it myself
i believe it is supposed to be compiled under $LFS/tools/xxx-build
xxx=package
can someone confirm this for me, otherwise i think i got it.
