prob while running grpconv after installing shadow-4.0.9

Hallo all,

some bg information for ur reference:

I am trying to make lfs on my existing slackware-10.2, kernel 2.6.14.3

I am following the hint for making lfs on existing partition.. actually upto the point where I m right now this hint makes no difference..

now I am in ch-6, installing shadow. I could install it without a problem but when configuring

pwconv went well but in grpconv my box stuck- hanged !! this happened many times and the command did not end ... what should i do ?

I have a 3.0Gz, 1GB ram pc with 2GB for swap..for info... I am runnign KDE on slackware while making lfs ..should I run it only cli ? is this very cpu intensive task ?

how can I go further ?

Hardik

This will tell you what's eating up system memory.
Code:
top
I know for a fact that kde3.x eats up system memory, mostly because qt3.x eats up system memory.

You may not have to use the CLI try using fluxbox or blackbox. (but no qt apps like konqueror)

(Ironicly i'm posting this from the CLI using elinks)

The grpconv command should use close to zero resources. It must be hung up waiting for a file. Are you sure your chroot environment is set up properly and that you're running the LFS version of the commands. It's been awhile since I was working in the chroot environment, but I think if this happened to me the first thing I'd do is an
Code:
ls /etc
to make sure it listed the LFS /etc directory rather than the one on the host system. I'd also try running the grpconv using an absolute path name
Code:
/usr/sbin/grpconv
.

I think the most important thing is that the passwd command works. If it does, maybe you can sort out the pwconv problem after you boot directly into LFS (which should be soon ).
