Please help with distribution choice

Hi,

I want to buy a new machine based on the AMD 4600 X2 (dual core) processor. I want to install a linux distribution. I was thinking of installing Fedora Core 6 (I have now FC2) but on the internet I saw that it contains a lot of bugs.

Can someone advice me about the 'best' distribution? It doesn't need to be a free distribution. I have a small company (http://www.javaatwork.com) that sells applications. I want to develop the applications on the new machine. Therefore I don't need fancy stuff but I need a good working distribution.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Johannes

If it didn't happen so often it's sad, I'd swear this question was meant to be a joke. If there was a "best" distro, we'd all be using it. Check out DistroWatch.com ... any of the leading distributions will be fine. If you think the support available with a "for-pay" distro is desireable, check out Xandros, Linspire, or the enterprise versions of Redhat, or Suse.

Edit: Another "Which Distro" thread in the LFS forum. Maybe there should be a big sign there that says "This Ain't the Place"
