New to LFS - First Impression
Hello all,
I am a long time linux user (user, not a developer), but I have never in the past had the courage to take on LFS. I started my linux experience with Slackware (somewhere around 2000, I think, and I think it was Slackware 8), which has been a positive experience. Then I did some distro hopping. I think I went through most of the major variants, maybe except for Gentoo. I come to loathe most of the "popular" linux distributions (Ubuntu, Mageia, Fedora etc) because of the unnecessary features/hardware compatibility at the expense of bloat, and I feel like I am using another version of Windows. I spent a lot of time on Arch, but I got fed up with rolling releases (too frequent updates), so I went back to Slackware where I've been mostly happy.
This week, I finally decided to challenge myself with LFS, so I downloaded 7.8-systemd and went through the book. I got through the first book (LFS) and I succeeded without major problems. The book was very clear and step-by-step, and mostly dummy-proof (unless if you're trying to read too quickly). Now I am going through the book 2 (BLFS) and I'm pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it is going.
I have to say bravo to the editors of the book. It clearly illustrates what is being done, and how it is done. It was easy to follow and most importantly, I understand more how the system is put together. Now I have my own 'distro' that I'm happy with.
I installed it on older macbook4,2 (2008), dual boot with os x.

All that to say, Hello everyone!
