Question My first road block: Chapter 6

I was going along so smoothly, then reality check... these things happen.

I can not for the life of me figure this out or just don't understand. I am using the lfslivecd-x86-6.2-3.iso Live-CD reading from LFS-Book-6.2.pdf
I'm up to 6.9. Glibc-2.3.6 going to install it and I have configure: errors:
Sorry this may get long is there no spoiler tags?

What I typed in console:
Quote:
root:/sources/glibc-2.3.6# cd ../glibc-build
root:/sources/glibc-build# ../glibc-2.3.6/configure --prefix=/usr \
> --disable-profile --enable-add-ons \
> --enable-kernel=2.6.0 --libexecdir=/usr/lib/glibc
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
running configure fragment for add-on libidn
running configure fragment for add-on nptl
checking sysdep dirs... sysdeps/i386/elf libidn/sysdeps/unix nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/i686 nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386 nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux nptl/sysdeps/pthread sysdeps/pthread nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv nptl/sysdeps/unix nptl/sysdeps/i386/i686 nptl/sysdeps/i386 sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386 sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux sysdeps/gnu sysdeps/unix/common sysdeps/unix/mman sysdeps/unix/inet sysdeps/unix/sysv/i386 sysdeps/unix/sysv sysdeps/unix/i386 sysdeps/unix sysdeps/posix sysdeps/i386/i686/fpu sysdeps/i386/i686 sysdeps/i386/i486 nptl/sysdeps/i386/i486 sysdeps/i386/fpu sysdeps/i386 sysdeps/wordsize-32 sysdeps/ieee754/ldbl-96 sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64 sysdeps/ieee754/flt-32 sysdeps/ieee754 sysdeps/generic/elf sysdeps/generic
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /tools/bin/install -c
checking whether ln -s works... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for suffix of object files... configure: error: cannot compute suffix of object files: cannot compile
See `config.log' for more details.
root:/sources/glibc-build#

I have the config.log if I should have put that up here just tell me it's just really long, and takes a lot of room.
If you can help thanks a bunch I'm at the moment stuck!

What happens when you run the sanity checks detailed here (yes, I am aware this part of step is 6.10).

I had the same problem and went through after recompiling the binutils.
