make bootstrap

I know this is a loaded question and I'm not looking for definative answer here but how long should I wait for make bootstrap to work??

I started it and came back like 3 hours later and it appears to have frozen.. CD is not running, hard drive light is not blinking and the screen is stopped scrolling...

I'm trying to install it on a old laptop, AMDK6, 333mhz??, 32 mg of Ram an a 4 gb HD so I know its really really slow and old...

3 hours is definitely way too long for a make bootstrap, even on that system.
