Locales Problem
Hi there.
As I'm sure everybody knows, there are two ways to install the locales for Glibc in chapter 6 of the LFS book. You can either install all of them, or you can install only those that are needed. I believe in only installing those which are needed... because otherwise what is the point of building the system from scratch. Below the instructions for installing a minimal set of locales, is the following warning: "This applies to the ja_JP and fa_IR locales as well—they have been installed only for GCC and Gettext tests to pass, and the watch program (part of the Procps package) does not work properly in them. Various attempts to circumvent these restrictions are documented in internationalization-related hints." So unless I'm misreading this, there are two locales which are needed in order for the test suits to work, and which will also cause problems with other packages. I have been unable to locate any hints dealing with this issue, although I have searched the LFS site, these forums, and the web I'm guessing that pretty much everybody at this site has installed LFS at least once, so I would very much like to hear what others have done to resolve this. Any suggestions much apprecated, -suma |

well i'm not planning on running all of the tests, but i think i'll probably run the important ones (binutils glibc gcc). this means that i will have to install ja_JP and fa_IR locales, and they apparantly cause a problem with the Procps package (watch program).
surely they would not mention this problem in the book for nothing... does anybody know what this problem is / how to fix it? |
