Live cd as host
 

If I use live cd as host , although I have Ubuntu 9.04, will I be able at the end to have dual boot , LFS and Ubuntu?

When using live cd , should the installation be in single shoot , if not it means I have to re-install live cd each time ...?

not real sure about your question, but I think this is the answer to what your asking.

You should be able to run both lfs and ubuntu if you want. Just make sure when you set up your partitions to leave room for the Ubuntu install.

Yes you will have a Ubuntu / LFS dual boot system.

Even though the host is the cd, the target is a partition on your HD (which you need to create if not present). LFS is put on that partition.

I would try to do all up to and including chapter 5. At this point you can stop and proceed later on.

This is also a good point to make a backup of what you have done so far, which could be of use if something goes wrong after you start again (wipe all, put back backup and restart from chap 6).

There is a LFS hint that explains how to restart in the middle of chap 6, but I don't have good experiences with that method. I would suggest doing chap 6 to end in one go as well.

You should already have grub loaded for your existing Ubuntu install. See WARNING on http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/...er08/grub.html

You probably just want to modify the /boot/grub/menu.lst on your existing Ubuntu installation to add the LFS choice.
