Can you be more specific? When you mention "Scratch" I immediately think either the distribution "Linux From Scratch" or Scratch-space on a hard drive. Is it either of these you are looking to get information on? What kind of information? Do you just want a simple definition?

Quote:
"Scratch Space" - Wikipedia: Scratch space is space on the hard disk drive that is dedicated for only temporary storage. It cannot be used to permanently back up files. Scratch disks can be set to erase all data at regular intervals so that the disk space is left free for future use.
Quote:
"Linux from Scratch" - Wikipedia: Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a type of a Linux installation and the name of a book written by Gerard Beekmans, and currently mainly maintained by Bruce Dubbs. The book gives readers instructions on how to build a Linux system from source. The book is available freely from the Linux From Scratch site and is currently in version 7.10.

Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a Linux distribution that you build yourself from the source code of the packages, using the instructions in the LFS Book. You need an existing Linux system to act as a build host. You also need a certain degree of familiarity with the Linux command line and Unix utilities, with file ownership and permissions, and with the basic process of building software from source code. It's no job for a Linux novice.

The purpose is to teach users how a Linux system is put together, and to allow them to create a final system that will contain the software they want and nothing else.

Go to www.linuxfromscratch.org for more information or read the article in Wikipedia.

N.B. You could have googled this for yourself

Hi Vishnu PR; welcome! Do you have a PC? Win? You could use VirtualBox to try NuTyX
which is based on LFS. (I don't know how much the LFS 'book' would match-up tho.)
It's super-small (CLI at first), and installs ultra-fast! It helps me learn nicely.

I realize it's very convenient to be based on LFS / BLFS. The team does a such great job. I think it's a win/ win project. We take advantage of they experience. they can take a look at our job (receipes, logs, whatever). Everything is totally transparent. We are able with just 2 packagers to propose KDE5 (much more complete then BLFS), mate (not yet available on BLFS), gnome (more complete as well), xfce4 and lxde.

I will never say enough: Thanks you so much guys.

Thanks to Gerard Beekmans for having creating a such great project.
