Solved it...
set default=0
set timeout=5

insmod ext2
set root=(hd0,1)  <---------- this is where /boot partition is

menuentry "GNU/Linux, Linux" {
        linux   /vmlinuz- root=/dev/hda6 ro  <---------- this is where / partition is

should that not read root=/dev/hda6
That's what I meant and why I mentioned it. I was suggesting that it was wrong.
