LFS LiveCD 6.1-2

Hi folks,

LFS LiveCD can boot up the PC. 'startx' started X window but I can't perform

1) Start KDE
- "startkde" can't work
- after starting X-window. On setting -> check 'kde' desktop -> close
logout and relogin with "startx" Only X window started, not KDE

2) Internet/broadband connection.
pppoe setup completed but can't connect ISP. Any command controls connecting ISP

Please advise. TIA

There is no KDE on the livecd, only xfce and maybe fluxbox and a couple other window managers. So instead of startkde, use startfluxbox.

Can't really help you on the second part since I don't use that sort of connection. But you may need to set your IP address, either statically or possible using dhcpcd.

The live cd only contains XFCE & ION as window managers.

KDE is not on the cd for size reasons.

X is though, that's why it popped up when you ran startx.

Here is a link to the README.

http://svn.linuxfromscratch.org/view...47&root=livecd

The link will provide you a list of what is included on the Live-CD.

Good Luck

Noted with thanks. On the setup menu there are options there to check for starting KDE/Gnome. It creates some confusion

Yes, I have completed setup pppoe but it won't connect ISP after finish, closing the setup window. Running "ping -c 3 www.yahoo.com" on console has no response. I'm searching around for a solution. If cutting out from outside world I can't use LFS LiveCD for building LFS. Knoppix works nice but the folks on LFS said there will have problem using it to build LFS. In such a case I think I have to find a Linux distro suitable to build LFS.

Hi mianve,

Tks for your advice and link.

fdisk is not included. Therefore I have to use another application to partition HD and to make file system on the partitions created.

There are no problems with the latest versions of Knoppix, I've even used earlier versions in the 3.x series and with a little working (mostly chmod 777 /dev/ptmx, which isn't needed anymore) it works very well.

fdisk is on there if I remember correctly. I believe even cfdisk is on there.

Tks. It is a good news to me. At least I don't need spending sometimes to learn LFS LiveCD first. Previously on browsing LFS website folks there discussed problems in using Knoppix to build LFS. It gave me a shock.
