LFS build custom ISO & install

I have recently started reading the LFS documentation. Please excuse me if this has already been asked, I was wondering if it is possible to build a distro & create an ISO of the whole system, and then when botting the newly burned CD/DVD to have an installation similar to Red Hat or Ubuntu with graphical install, customized disk partitioning, disk selection, etc.

I am trying to build a user friendly desktop distro, mostly just for fun, so would like something user friendly. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, or is this beyond the scope of LFS?

If so, would anyone be interested in helping me build a true customized distro that we could distribute freely to the public?

Thank You for your help.

hey,

I am in the process of learning LFS myself.
if you want to "join forces" and build something together, feel free to email me.

This is something that I've thought about for a while and the reason why I started in on LFS. My ultimate goal is to build a distribution that can be installed to a hard drive or run from a thumb drive. I know that distros like that already exist, but it would be a lot of fun and a great learning experience to build a new one from scratch.
It may be beyond the scope of LFS (and maybe even past BLFS), but probably not by that much.

If my thoughts are at all in line with yours, pop me a note!

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/BuildDocProject or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ubiquity or the Slackware Installer system will work for what you want.

Anaconda, Ubiquity, and the Slackware installer each will let you do this (with non-trivial effort, but then again LFS is a non-trivial endeavor in and of itself so it won't be a problem by the time you finish your LFS), with the addition of more compiled software on your LFS (which you can glean from the requirements of the three installers mentioned above).

This question gets asked quite OFTEN. So I decided to round up a few of the threads that addressed this question for future people who search for this answer in the hopes of providing them with the info they've asked for.

The home page for Anaconda and the section that references specifically what you are asking is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anacon...ution_Builders with some required reading here as well: https://fedorahosted.org/pungi/

You can get some nice screen shots of what Anaconda can do when incorporated into a distribution of your own by visiting here: https://www.scientificlinux.org/dist...installan.html

I hope that helps :)

I actually started a LFS build recently and the Slackware installer is what I plan on using.

Hey If you can keep me posted on your progress and throw out some scraps to pass around it would be appreciated :)

I'm interested in documenting a couple of approaches for this.

No news is good news perhaps?

Have you made any headway in this regard? I'm still interested in following your progress on this :)
