I know did you install gpm and the web browser yet links. Can you use vim?

i didn't install gpm and Lynx.frankly, i don't think that could help me.because i'm using vmware and it needs vmware tools to work properly.so i gave up on that

Have a look here why you should use LFS and not the host+chrooted environment: building BLFS

Are you sure about that, 'cause I seriously doubt that.

i meant from my host os that is windows seven, vmware tools should be installed.

If that's a problem, maybe LFS/BLFS isn't for you. Choosing to use something like LFS or Slackware or Gentoo is going to require more of your time to maintain the system. You should go into it with eyes wide open.

That said, I'll second all of druuna's advice. Also, if you built LFS in a virtual machine, you don't even need to install GPM and links on LFS as you can use your host machine's browser.

Too my knowledge the vmware tools make life a bit easier/smoother when interacting between (vmware)host and (vmware)client. The vmware tools aren't needed on LFS (I even doubt if you could install them at this stage).

I've regularly installed LFS using a virtual machine and I never install/need the vmtools (depending on what I want to do I do install them when (B)LFS is installed).
