LFS 7.5, ch 6.45: Groff configure error

Might add a note that the groff configure script looks for ImageMagick and Ghostscript, neither of which is yet installed.

You can register here: http://wiki.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/ to report a bug!

Groff shouldn't have any issues during the LFS build stage.

I have never had problems of any kind building Groff in any version of LFS.

I've never had problems of any kind building Groff. I simply noticed the error messages during the configure phase regarding missing Ghostscript and ImageMagick files suggesting that the product will not be able to render PDF or Portable Network Graphics content embedded in, for example, a man page. I mentioned it only because someone may notice the error messages regarding the missing graphics rendering packages and wonder if they made a mistake. A statement to the effect that such messages are normal until you start building BLFS might help those who actually read the configure messages flying by. I only noticed the messages because I was using a large xterm window at the time. I could have been more verbose reporting this minor inconsequential matter to avoid the possibility of confusion among those who may jump to incorrect conclusions. It is not a bug; it is not an error during the LFS non-graphics build. I'm reluctant to register for yet another forum simply to mention the possibility that someone might notice the error messages that are of no consequence. I did close the thread, since no further comments would be relevant. I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition....

You can always rebuild and reinstall to resolve those dependencies.

Nevertheless, comments about and suggestions for the LFS book should be posted at the LFS wiki or the lfs-dev mailing list where the developers will actually see them.

... > Linux Forums > Linux - Distributions > Linux From Scratch: not an appropriate forum for comments or suggestions regarding Linux From Scratch. Got it. Sorry, won't do it again.

*thump* [Sotto voce] Is this on? Ah! Neither ImageMagick nor Ghostscript are listed among the LFS packages. They are not dependencies. I should have mentioned this upstream to the groff developers, since the fact that those packages are missing is not an error during the groff configure script; they could modify their configure script to display Info instead of Error. Meanwhile, Ghostscript is part of BLF Chapter 43 Part XIII. Printing, Scanning and Typesetting; ImageMagick is among BLF Chapter 11. General Utilities. "...neither of which is yet installed." could possibly suggest the intention of installing them as part of Beyond Linux From Scratch.

No. It is not the place to suggest changes to the LFS book which your first post appears to be doing. What in the world is the matter with you? What's the attitude for? Your first post appears to be a suggestion aimed at the LFS developers. They're not here. I don't understand why being told that pissed you off.

Haven't got to say this in a long time.

NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
