LFS 7.1 Precompiled

I just finished Linux from Scratch 7.1 last night which took about 10 hours of reading and compiling.

Since I already "TAR"ed up the filesystem for backup reasons, I thought I would share it with you guys. Surly somebody might find it useful. :-)

You will have to edit /etc/fstab, the hostname, the password, and MIGHT have to compile your own kernel. If you follow the instructs at "http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/" then it shouldn't be TOO hard to adapt it to your needs. I kept a copy of the linux sources in /usr/src and the config in /boot.

The filesystem is compressed twice. Once with "TAR" and then again with "XZ" so you will need both these programs to decompress it. Uncompressed the filesystem takes up 502MB disk space.

I added a FEW BLFS packages to make my life easier but its pretty bare.

The login user is "root" and the password is "Unknown". Note the capital U.

I ran all the test suits that were available and I didn't set any CFLAGS nor CXXFLAGS so everything SHOULD work.

I appreciate your work very much, though I don't know yet if I'll benefit from it someday.

While I thank you for your kind gesture, there is kind of a technical issue with offering this too. To comply with all the licenses you may have to read every one and see if you are not required to offer sources along or such to comply. Never an easy task.

Sadly no I wasn't trying to be funny. I simply couldn't find a file hosting site that didn't require registration of some kind.

If you can find one that doesn't require registration then let me know. :-)

I've never used any of those services to publish anything on my behalf, but I occasionally downloaded from rapidshare.com, depositfiles.com and oron.com. None of these require a registration for downloading (though a registration may give you some benefit with some of them).

No source code was altered in any way in the creation of this "build".
Any changes that were done were patches specified by LFS and were done specifically for making a package work.

Other linux distributions don't require any license reading prior to installation. I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Just to be sure though:

MIT License: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/...dices/mit.html
GNU GPL License: http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

Thank you. Now I'm building BLFS on your shared copy of LFS.

You can upload this on mediafire.com.
