LFS 3.2 book, but LFS packages 3.0
Is it 'safe' to follow the 3.2 book but use the packages from 3.0 pre 3.
Just curious as I don't really want to download the new packages (if they have been updated) due to a limited bandwidth. Okay i'm a dial-up user happy now! :) |

You really don't want to build a system with those old packages. But of course it's up to you, be prepared that some package installation instructions in the current 3.2 book may not work with the old versions you are going to use. If downloading is really a big issue, email me at gerard@linuxfromscratch.org and perhaps we can work out me sending you a cdrom with all the lastest source code on it. |
Thanks for the info and thank you for the offer as well.
It's okay about the cdrom - I have a friend with a cable connection who loves to download just about anything, asked him one night to download 3 linux distro's for me and he had them burned onto cd the next day! Only thing is I have to wait until I go back to uni to see him (only a week though!). Thanks again. Keep up the excellent LFS work. :D |
