kernel for music server and fast boot
Hello,
At last after 8 years (!) i have some spare time to enjoy life and linux.
I am trying to build a music server based on LFS using an old pc. I am going to build a custom kernel with very few modules specific to my hardware and service needs. I am not going to use any window manager since i dont need one. My question is can i achieve a 5-10 second boot time?
I have seen a lot of info in internet that some guys have achieved 5 second boot time using an SSD drive but they have tweaked the boot sequence of linux with some exotic programming.
Do you think thsat i have to use LFS and achieve a fast boot time (5-10 sec boot time) only by striping down the kernel or is it maby easier to customize the moblin kernel (10 second boot time) to achieve my goal?
Since i have heard that SSD drives boot faster than SATA-IDE disks, using a USB drive can i achieve fast booting?
