Kernel 2.6.15 LFS Compatable?
Hello,
I was thinking of waiting till the new version of the Linux Kernel 2.6.15 came out to do my LFS installation. The new version is said to be released befor New Years(http://kerneltrap.org/node/5989). Will LFS be compatable with this new version, and should I wait? Or should I jsut go ahead and install it, then update the Kernel later? EDIT: grr..I ment 2.6.15..not 1.6 :P |
You can already install the original kernel and install the other kernel if it comes out, you can run multiple kernels side by side with no problem.

I just finished my second time through with LFS so I'm still a newb. I would suggest sticking with the newest edition - 6.1.1 for the first time through. The new edition went very smoothly for me. I would also suggest using the LiveCD version. That way your environment will be set up with LFS as the target.
The LFS developers have done a fine job!!!! Jeff |
Well, I got LFS working with the older kernel it tells you how to setup. The next day I downloaded, configured, and built the latest and the greatest version of the kernel and it works great.

I recommend the LiveCD.
I had less problems with it. However the X config of the LiveCD could be improved, Kanotix, Knoppix etc.. do it better. But other than that, it rocks! |
I will have to agree with you regarding the X configuration. It doesn't do a very good job. For livecds, I generally make a copy of the configuration file from Knoppix that always seems to get it right.
All things considered, the LFS liveCD is excellent. It is one of the best learning experiences you can find. Jeff |
