KDE doesn't recognize my passwords!
Hello there,
First of all, my english is not very good, since my mother tongue is french. Anyways, you will probably understand my request. Here's my problem. I've build an LFS 5.1.1 system 2 weeks ago. I installed XFree86 and KDE on it. It works fine. But there's a problem with KDE : it doesn't recognize any of my password. I have KDE 3.2.2. For example, when I lock the screen and enter my password to unlock it, I get an error message. When I try to adjust the clock (I must give the root password), I also get the wrong password error. In konsole, su and all those password-related programs work. In virtual consoles, too. In fact, I need to log in in console mode, then type "startx" to get KDE to work. KDM doesn't work either. If I try to create another user via "kuser", it doesn't work. Plus, no group is created after I create a user. I have shadow and PAM, but I do not have a /etc/skel file. My keyboard is well configurated. The problem is persistent even if I copy-paste my password in the password field. Can you help me out? I have absolutely no idea of what I should do. Thank you very, very, very much, Guimauve2 |
You should dowload the patch that resolves the problem. Also, there's problem with Ark (cannot deal with .tar files), so download a patch for that.
Then recompile KDE (only changed packages). http://www.kde.org/info/3.2.2.php |
And how do I apply cpp pathes?
|
I manually edited the file, but... it works only when I am told to give the root password. When I try to lock the screen or to use KDM, and get the error.
Even in root. This is not a _huge_ concern, though, as I do not plan on using KDM (I use a console login with "startx" instead), but if I accidentaly lock the screen, it's annoying. Any idea? |
