Is LFS in VirtualBox over Windows 8 possible?

I was thinking of restarting with the newest LFS version in a VirtualBox (V-Box) over Windows 8: If anybody knows of any known issues then please let me know?

Is there a "best" configuration for building an LFS in a V-Box on a natively Windows machine? (load Debian in the V-Box and then LFS in the virtualized Debian?)

Can one then port the V-Box built LFS to a newly assembled computer and have it run as the host operating system?

note: I did do a quick scan of LQ and LFS websites before posting these questions.

+1

Have you used linux before? If you haven't and you are coming straight from windows I would suggest installing (either in vbox or as duel boot ) a linux distro and have a play with it first before jumping in to building LFS, the windows CLI ( such as it is ) is VERY different from the linux CLI.

I have used Linux before and went through the entire RUTE 2038 book. I went through the first few chapters of LFS successfully before as well. I've also used VI/VIM and am learning other editors. I am making a second go through of RUTE's book now. I am writing this in a VirtualBox running Mint 14 (nadia) Cinnamon. I do not know the limitations of VirtualBox: Can't I set up a virtual partition from Linux Mint for the LFS project? If it's possible then I would rather avoid partitioning my hard drive to dual boot Linux for now (even though I did that on my last computer). Hopefully this tells you enough of my background?

You can set up a virtual partition from Linux Mint. Also another alternative to dual booting is using the Ubuntu wubi installer.

I have yet to try this out, but as I have read, you can do it.

Your question is a bit unclear. I used Debian and found it really easy. I've used Ubuntu before and I prefer Debian.
