Installing Linux-2.4.20: Make menuconfig, connot find ncurses
I am at section 8.4.2 trying to install the kernel. When I give the command "make menuconfig", I get the error:
Cannot find ncurses library ...
Also, I am getting an error:
gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `as': No such file or directory.
But it appears that the lack of the ncurses library is causing the exit. I've checked my ncurses installation and everything appears to be installed. A selection of the programs that are supposed to go in appear to be there. I check <command> --version or "man <command>" and they show up. But, if I try to reinstall the package to see if that's the problem, I get an error during the ./configure part:
"Checking for C compiler default output ...
configure: error: C compiler connot create executables"
Anyone have any idea what is going on?
