How long did it take you to build your LFS?
 

Just out of curiousity how many working hours would you say it to for you to complete your build?

This question is mainly directed to those who fallowed the book without taking short cuts.

Well, it all really depends on what type of computer you're running. I did it on a 800mhz with 256mb of ram and it took me about 2 days. On my newer computer which has 2.0ghz and 2gb of ram it took about 1 day. Really the only big ones that take forever are GCC, binutils and glibc. The rest only takes a couple of minutes. Also it depends on how you actually do the compilation. It's faster(usually) to do it on an existing Linux system than the LiveCD, but the LiveCD will produce a completely independent system no matter what. Sometimes there are troubles with doing it in an existing Distro. But, GOOD LUCK!!:p

I have to say "a couple of years". I have made several attempts, over time, but this week I was determined. It took two days to complete LFS, however I have not yet rebooted. I want to make sure I get it right this time. The thought of losing everything after having got this far is a bit intimidating. However I shall continue the next step after I have spent some time away from the machine. Now is not the time to make stupid mistakes.

about a week on a pentium III with 300mb 0f ram. started on a saturday worked on it all weekend and after work during that week. had it booting by the following friday. used debian as my base. took all day saturday installing the required software on debian to run LFS. had to redo my kernel configuration about three times to get it to boot. this was my first time unsure what I was during, and had to repeat a few steps at the start, but I had done kernel configuration before with hit and miss success.

Took me about 6-7 hrs (but I cheated) I stole Slackware package management and started writing build scripts before I started.
