How do I create a admin user for FTP?

Hi Everyone,

I'm setting up a new server (Dell 1750/Red Hat Ent. 2.1 AS) and I'll admit I'm a bit over my head. I hope you all can help with a few things.

How do I create a user that has full administrator privileges across all files and directories in FTP?

I created an "admin" user (using Gnome User Manager) and added all the groups that "root" belongs to. When I connect with FTP as "admin" I still can't copy files except to the admin home directory. What am I missing? How do I give the admin user full privileges?

Thanks for any advice,

root has special powers. There is no way to grant those powers to any other user (and it would be a huge security problem, as the "admin" could do anything on the system, not only in ftp.

To solve your problem, modify your ftp server's configuration file so that admin is not chrooted to his home directory. You must also set file permissions correctly.
