Hello all
I'm fairly used to using linux systems (and other *nix types) as I've been using Ubuntu as a primary OS for the past several months and have been doing various things on CLI and GUI for about 5 years now.
I'm brand spankin' new to LFS however! I just wanted to say hello and that I've enjoyed browsing through the posts here. I'm sure I'll have some questions or need input at some point! I've just today started building an LFS system using the liveCD on a Dell Optiplex desktop. I'm mostly doing this to learn more about how linux functions and why it's set up the way it is. Cheers! Hello + welcome! I built up an LFS system about 3 years and found it an excellent way to learn how the nuts + bolts of the system works. Keep meaning to give it a whirl with LFS6, just never get the time. Back when I tried, I had it happily running Fluxbox and basic Internet apps which is all I was interested in at the time. Sure you'll have fun!

Hi,
I have a LFS install too, and I use it as my main distro, and upgrade everything bu hand, only have a few apps that I need on it ( Doom 3, SiS drivers, Eclipse, Enlightenment, supertux, moon buggy, vim, nano that sort of stuff). It can be used as a main distro, cos it rocks :p Good Luck! thedeadhead |
Hey all,
I can't wait until this thing is actually built! I'm doing it as a side project at work, which means yesterday I only got as far as page 36 or so (installing Glibcc). so far I've had a few bumps to work out, but I've gotten through everything. Generally my errors are not applying the correct patch, typing something incorrectly or some such things. It's fun! I don't think this will be my primary distro (I'm hooked on Ubuntu on my laptop, and I'm running Ubuntu server as a filer at work) but the experience is definately worth it. I've already learned a bunch. Cheers, Ben |

I run it now as my primary OS, including bootsplash with the progressbar from the hints. I run KDE. No dependency hell anymore, and much easier to manage the system and track down problems. |
