grub-install error

Hi,

I'm trying to set up grub (Chapter 8.4) but I'm getting an error.

Code:

# grub-install /dev/sdb

grub-install: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdb4.  Check your device.map.

I'm trying to install LFS on an external HD - /dev/sdb. sdb4 is a separate /boot partition. I have tried looking around for a answer but haven't found anything. any ideas?

Take a look at the link below, the part starting with Fix a Broken System. You need to mount the boot partition and point to it in the install command, item 6 has an example entry. That should work for Grub2 which I'm not sure you are using?
