GRUB -> *stage1_5 files --- Which to copy?
Hi there. I am having trouble deciding which stage files to copy across, during my GRUB installation.
I have two partition types on my system:
ext1 - boot partition
ext3 - root partition
From the LFS book:
A friend advised that I copy all files in the directory, but as my goal is to build a minimal system, I only want to do this if there is a definite advantage.
Can anyone make a recommendation? I would also like to know what others have done in this situation.
You can also copy the e2fs to the boot directory.
What I heard is that the extended filesystem is backwards compatible with older ones, Most probably e2fs will work on the e1fs directory only it doesn't use the e2fs functions.
For the normal root partition it isn't needed because the kernel has the support for the ext 3 partition.
Those files is only needed for grub.
Hope you understand..
Oh lol I didn't see the typo until you replied.
Ext2: boot (this is hda1, that's what caused the typo )
But I think I got the answer to my question anyway:
Thanks for the help :)
An idiot proof method is to ask Linux to find it for you by command
find / -name e2fs_stage1_5 file
