glibc problem in chapter 6

I have noticed that the glibc package hasn't been compiled succesfully. I have determined the problem when i ran the config procedure and the ./config script couldn't determine the host type...
Reading the script file i determined that executes the hostid command. So then i decided to execute the hostid command separetely. After the enter key was pressed the answer came after few seconds and the value was 0. Having done a small search i found that the zero value is returning when a problem with the glibc package exists. So how i can remove it and how i can compile it again?
Thx for helping

hello there, my first post here (hope many more will follow )

I have exactly the same problem, glibc starts to loop in the signal part.
If i compile glibc on my other linux machine the extact same compile works, so problebly it is not at glibc problem but something else?

Hoop someone figures it out!

Thanks in advance

i tried it with glibc version 2.2.5 again lastnight and it gives the same error (again a loop in the program, will capture the code later today and post the 2 different loop parts of 2.2.5 and 2.3.3), so its not a glibc problem , but what else can it be?

yep

Yep. I have noticed the same thing in my machine . No other program can be compiled now because can configure it.
I was thinking if the problem was fixed, if i was trying to restart again from chapter 6. But how i can restart and from what point?

Found out that if you compile glibc with --prefix=/usr it goes well.
If you put --prefix=/tools it goes into the loop (even if the /tools dir is empty).
