Gentoo 2005.1 emerge problem
I am currently installing Gentoo on a secondary PC. Everything is going good until I emerged gentoo-sources. Connection to one of my source ftp's continues to timeout. I do have other sites listed in my conf file. But it takes forever to get to the alternate with it retrying the first source ftp. Is there a way to pause the emerge and edit my make.conf and return to where it left off?

You can merely stop the emerge (ctrl+z I think it is) edit the make.conf file, then re-issue emerge gentoo-sources it should immediately detect the new settings in the make.conf file and use the new (or alternate) mirror selected.
