Gcc4

Having built LFS6 - I was wondering if it was possible to update some of the toolchain packages (I'd like to do GCC4) to newer versions??
How about newer kernel versions?? Do I have to then use new kernel headers??
Will this break the toolchain completely??

You can upgrade kernel versions to your hearts content, the kernel headers used to build glibc in chapters 5 and 6 should never be changed unless you plan on rebuilding glibc. As for installing gcc-4 I'd recommend installing it in /opt in a similar fashion to the installation of gcc-3.3.4 as decribed in the BLFS book, that way you can try it out first and if you dont like it no harm is done.

Mad.
