GCC 3.4.3 libc.so error

I am trying to compile gcc-3.4.3 pass1 from the instructions in the book. my "make" command gives the following error:
Code:
/tools/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:/usr/lib/libc.so: file format not recognized; treating as linker script
/tools/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:/usr/lib/libc.so:5: syntax error
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [libgcc_s.so] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/lfs/sources/gcc-build/gcc'
make[2]: *** [libgcc.a] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/lfs/sources/gcc-build/gcc'
make[1]: *** [stage1_build] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/lfs/sources/gcc-build/gcc'
make: *** [bootstrap] Error 2
Any suggestions?

I just compiled gcc-3.4.4 on FC4 with no problems using GCC4.

Which distribution are you using?
Which compiler are you using?
I think other information that is important is:
Which versions of binutils and glibc?

ONLY an idea: You MAY need to either upgrade your binutils or perhaps glibc? Not sure really.

I am using FC4 with GCC 4.0. I downloaded the LiveCD today, so I will see how that works when I get home.

Hi I actually wrote down my steps, if you do look at them, I'd be interested in any feedback:
