from liveCD iso on hard drive partition

Hi,
first I should explain just what my problem is, in case I'm looking for the wrong solution.

I have an old Dell Inspiron 7500 with a pIII cpu, 128MB ram, 12GB hard disk, and a bum keyboard.

The BIOS doesn't like USB, and I only have a USB keyboard. Also, it takes for ever to compile the packages, and I don't have a lot of free time, so I can 1: leave the computer on all the time; 2: reboot with the liveCD every time I have a chance to work on this, and reconfigure a lot of stuff. or; 3: boot from the iso image on a partition and hibernate when it's time to stop.

I managed to install grub and configure it to boot up the iso, but then i get dropped into a shell and told that the iso could not be found, and that it might be because it's an old IDE hard drive.
this is my drive:
hda: IBM-DARA-212000, ATA DISK
I looked around a bit, and couldn't fine a module I should be loading to get it to work, so I'm asking for help.

Ivan

You didn't say which distribution your live CD is, but I have had alot of luck on several different machines with MEPIS. If that is not wha tyou are using, I suggest you download and burn a CD of MEPIS 7.0 - based on Debian stable. www.mepis.org

killing the thread

actually, I'm going in a different direction. I'm trying remastering the LiveCD to automatically enter the options that will allow me to hibernate the laptop.

And I'm working with LFS 6.3, and posting in the LFS forum.
