I gather this error was during "make check".

This has been seen before when using glibc snapshots, sometimes (depending on the CVS pull) librt gets rebuilt during make check incorrectly, -lc -lpthread etc do not get added to the link ( which is a real PITA as
it would have been built correctly in the first place ).

Simply touching all the configures after unpacking glibc seems to stop this behaviour (at times the timestamps
for configure lags behind configure.in if the glibc devs havent regenerated things).
Regenerating the autotools stuff yourself tends to be... urm... kinda fun...

After unpacking glibc
cd glibc-x.x.x ; find . -name configure -type f -exec touch {} \;
then continue on to build as per normal.

Kinda ironic really that the check breaks things, I tend to install glibc before testing it when using CVS glibc
nowadays just to ensure the good libs get installed before getting broken.

Funnily enough though, I have never seen this happen with the glibc-2.3.3-lfs-5.1 tarball...

HTH
