Enfin!!

It was my second attempt, and it took me all weekend (back to back all-nighters!), but I can proudly say that I am registered LFS user #4732.

I think I could do it alot faster the next time. The actual install only took up a single nite, it was installing other programs that took up my time.

Not understanding how lilo works got me stuck for a long time in trying to configure my kernel. I spent an entire day trying to get Galeon installed (no success - gtk and glib problems).

That said, I am writing from my lfs partition, with opera, and fluxbox installed.

I learned alot doing this. Running Redhat hid alot of the details of how the machine really worked, because everything is allready configured. Each time I wanted to do something I took for granted in Redhat, I had to stop and read a man or the handy O'Reilly Running Linux, search google or this forum. BTW, this is one of the first places I look for answers - thanks moderator et al.

I look forward to my LFS taking over ther rest of my computer.

Thanks Gerard!

Welcome on board.

In case you haven't found them yet, the LFS website refers to a number of specific LFS resources, such as the FAQ, BLFS and the online mailinglist archives. This forum at linuxquestions.org is not the primary or only way to get help on LFS. Our primary develoment and support takes place on the mailinglists. To date, the archives contain somewhere between 55 and 65 thousand emails sent over the last 3.5 years of LFS' existance. I consider that a tremendous amount of potential useful information when facing problems. All of those emails are in Google's database as well, so you can simple google for problems and there's a good chance you end up at LFS' mailinglist archives.

The mailing list is indeed a great source of info, however, I'm having trouble accessing it through the google groups... that is finding lfs postings through google. As it is, when I want to search the archives, i just go month by month using the find on my browser to search the keyword page by page - there must be an easier way...?

Thanks.
