Custom Desktop Environments

Hi!

Scrimping and experimenting with assembling together a custom desktop environment, I am interested in hearing the combinations that the other LFS users use. Please share with your underlying reasoning!

My choice was :

Window Manager - Openbox (lightweight and pretty much stable with an active developer community)
Wallpaper Manager -Feh (Simple and nice)
Login Manager - Stumped here
Dock -Stumped again. I like Cairo but it feels bloated at times.

I hope future versions of BLFS would include a more comprehensive guide to assemble the pieces together-after all, assembling your desktop nvironment from scratch IS a tremodous learning experience!

Have a nice LFS day!

Xfce 4.10 VERY easy to compile and install.
Cairo Dock from BZR.
Mplayer from SVN.
FFmpeg from GIT.
SpaceFM filemanager.

NO Gnome stuff
Very little KDE stuff.

I don't run LFS, but I am now using the same combo on all distro setups:

Window Manager - Openbox
Wallpaper - Nitrogen
Login Manager - LightDM
Dock - Tint2 panel, rather than a dock
File Manager - PCManFM (considering SpaceFM)

Window Manager - Openbox
Wallpaper - Nitrogen
Login Manager - none
Panel - Tint2-svn
File Manager - Thunar

I start x automatic at login by this line in .bash_profile
Code:
[[ $(fgconsole 2>/dev/null) == 1 ]] && exec startx -- vt1
That only starts X from tty1, so if I need to log in to console I can do it from another tty.
