 Can anyone help me with this question?

alright i just finished [well almost] my first install of gentoo ever, and i was just curious if someone could clear things up for me here....is LFS somewhat the same as gentoo in terms of installiation, you have to build gentoo from scratch, so i am assuming that that is a big similarity between the two. thanks for any info on this matter!

Your best source of info will be to look at the LFS book from one of the LFS mirrors - http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ - I've not installed Gentoo but I would expect it to be very different as you need an existing linux system to build your LFS system and you need to do all the builds yourself by hand, nothing is automated.

cheers

Jamie...

well you don't build it from scratch really, gentoo has a low level installation, but when you get to "emerge system" you get to bugger off of 8 hours and forget all about it. Portage's power creates a fair gap between LFS and gentoo.
